2 Illinois Eateries Make Yelp’s “Top 100 Seafood Spots In U.S.”

The few times in my life that I've been out fishing were really fun experiences up until the time came for cleaning up the catches of the day in preparation for cooking. I don't know about you, but the catching part was far more enjoyable than the scaling, cleaning, gutting, and fileting parts.

I was told once that the best seafood is the seafood that someone else got stuck preparing, and always keeping that thought in mind, when I get a seafood craving I go to a seafood restaurant and leave the work up to them.

Like steakhouses, pizza places, and Asian restaurants, Illinois is absolutely loaded with outstanding seafood eateries, so let's take a look at what Yelp reviewers say are the two best seafood spots in our state.

Many People Think That The Most Expensive Restaurants In America Are Steakhouses, And While There Are Lots Of Top Dollar Joints To Go To For A Steak, The Most Expensive Restaurant In The United States Is Actually A Seafood Restaurant

The title of America's Most Expensive Restaurant goes to a place in Manhattan called Masa, opened by Chef Masayoshi "Masa" Takayama in 2004. I have no idea what the most expensive meal you've ever had cost you, but I'm guessing a trip to Masa will cost more.

According to the Masa website, "The price for our Omakase is $750 per person, not including beverage and tax. Additionally, we offer our Hinoki Counter Experience. This experience is $950 per person, not including beverage and tax."

Okay. Well, I might have to pass. I'm more comfortable with the decimal point after the first number, not the third number, when it comes to ordering food.

Before We Look At The Two Spots Yelp Reviewers Chose As Illinois' Best Seafood Restaurants, I Can Tell You That Most Of The Places On Yelp's List Are On The Coasts

Including their choice for the best seafood spot in the country (in spite of being in a strip-mall), Blue Seafood & Spirits in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Restaurants from 25 states make up the top 100 list, with California and Florida tying for most, at eleven each. Nevada, along with both North and South Carolina posted 7 to tie for second place, and Texas has 6.

The Original Island Shrimp House, located at 12902 LaGrange Rd, Palos Park. The Original Island Shrimp House comes in at #51 on the Yelp list.

Next, coming in at #91 on the Yelp list of the top 100 seafood spots in America is Lowcountry Lakeview, a Mardi Gras-themed restaurant located at 3343 N. Clark Street in Chicago.
