As you might have heard, my wife and I were blessed to welcome our new daughter into the world this past week. Jillian Mae arrived November 5 at 8:59 a.m., weighing 8 lbs 9 oz and measuring 21 inches. In the delivery room all I kept hearing from the doctors was, "Now that's a big baby!" I'm not sure how comforting that was for my wife.

Jillian is doing very well. Thus far she's proven to be adept at the three things babies do most often: sleeping, eating, and eliminating what has been eaten. Oh, and she cries like a champ too. Mom is recovering nicely as well. Now comes the challenge of juggling a 19-month-old (Alexander) and a newborn at home. I'm sure we'll be up to it!

A couple of pictures here of Jillian. This is just a few minutes after being born. Not her best photo:

We took Jillian home on Friday. Her big brother isn't quite sure yet what to make of her. This is Jillian relaxing in the sunshine on Saturday:

And finally, from Sunday night, here she is with her eyes open. Still can't tell what color those eyes are right now, and certainly that can change in these first few months anyway:

I'm truly blessed to have such a wonderful family. Thanks to all for the well-wishes and kind words while I was out. Happy to be back!
