Look, I totally get it.

The Winnetka home of the fictional McCallister family in the 1990 movie "Home Alone" is an absolutely beautiful and world famous property. Many even consider the home to be an actual character in the film. Many more would love the opportunity to get inside and have a look around or maybe stay a couple of nights.

And to me, that's the problem with it.

No matter how big and beautiful it is, I don't think that I'd be very comfortable living in a house that attracts that much attention. I really don't want a constantly ringing doorbell that lets me know that yet another person or group wants to come in for a tour. I also would not be thrilled that during the Christmas season hundreds of cars slowly drive by for a look and bog down the whole neighborhood.

So for those reasons and being several million dollars short of the asking price, I decided against buying it---but someone else just did.

Even If The House At 671 Lincoln Avenue In Winnetka Weren't World Famous, It's Still An Absolutely Beautiful Place That Most Of Us Would Love To Live In

However, in order to bring that fantasy to life, some serious money is needed. Especially if you're willing to go significantly over the asking price for the property.

WGNTV:

The home, which is located in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue, in Winnetka, hit the market back in May with an asking price of $5,250,000 and Coldwell Banker Realty announced Thursday that the Dawn McKenna Group had closed on it for $5,500,000.

Built in 1921, and fully renovated and expanded in 2018, the 9,126-square-foot Georgian-style home features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a basement and a three-car garage.

The new owners wish to remain private, but there's no doubt that they really wanted the home because they made their offer within a week of the house going on the market.

The Owners Who Just Sold The Home Also Made Some Renovations And Additions To The Already Spectacular Property

According to Patch.com, Timothy and Trisha Johnson completed an extensive renovation in 2018, expanding the home to include an indoor sports court, a movie theater and a bright, modern family room with coffered ceilings and French doors leading to the backyard.

Keep in mind that Illinois residents are saddled with some of the highest property taxes in the entire country when you read this from the Patch.com story:

The property’s storied history comes with a hefty tax bill. The Johnsons have paid about $50,000 annually in property taxes since a reassessment in 2022.

This is about as close as most of us are ever going to get:
