The Leonid Meteor Shower going on right now should offer up clear-sky meteor rates of about 10 to 15 shooting stars per hour, but has been known to put on a spectacular show of up to (and over) 1000 shooting stars per hour.
As I told you yesterday on this website, it's a pretty great week for sky-watching here in the Rockford area. You've got the International Space Station flying over multiple times, and tomorrow morning you've the Super Flower Blood Moon Eclipse.
It's been going on since last Friday, April 16th, but our best chance at getting a decent look at the Lyrid Meteor Showers in the Rockford area should be this Thursday in the early morning hours.
Since most of the snowpack in and around the Rockford area will have melted away by the weekend, you'll need something to look at besides wet, brown grass. Luckily, the moon will provide a pretty cool distraction.
