It's hard to have real staying power in the restaurant business. That's why the most historic food joint in Illinois is impressive as it's a drive-in that's managed to stay vital for nearly 8 decades.
If you're going to hop in your car to get something to eat, you might as well go to a place where you can get your meal served while you're on your ride.
It seems that everyone is a critic especially on the internet and I don't want to be one of those. However, even though Guy Fieri has taken his Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives show to 27 Missouri places, there are many classic places he's missed in our state.
There are times when it seems that Guy Fieri's voice is heard more often in my house than mine is. That's cool with me, as we are unabashed "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" fans, and have been since the show came along in 2007.
I sometimes feel badly for those who are too young to have experienced the fun of a drive-in movie. At one time, Rockford had several drive-in movie theaters to choose from, but those days are long gone. Now, the closest drive-in that I could find is 39 miles away in McHenry. Don't despair, though. There's a great alternative right here in town.
