Students Miss 2 Weeks Due To Heat Issue At Indiana School

GARY, Ind. (AP) — Students at a school in northwestern Indiana missed more than two weeks of classes because problems with the school's aging boiler system left the building without heat.

The problem at Theodore Roosevelt College and Career Academy in Gary still is being repaired, so the school's more than 550 students returned to class Thursday by sharing space with the Gary Area Career Center.

Theodore Roosevelt College and Career Academy says extreme cold temperatures last month caused water pipes connected to the boiler system to burst.

Ian Miller, the school's principal, says he had to get kids back in class, even though sharing space isn't ideal. Miller says lost instruction time will be made up after school and possibly on Saturdays.
