Snow Is Coming. Here’s A Message From Your Mail Carrier

Hope you enjoyed Thursday's sun because it's about to feel like winter. 

It is supposed to snow on Saturday. About 1-3 inches. Not a lot, but enough that you probably will have to do some shoveling and or snow blowing.

Before we get to the mail carriers let's take a quick review of some of the snow rules in Rockford. You can look at the whole list here.

• The City is responsible for ice and snow control on City streets.
• Residents are responsible for their sidewalks and alleys.
• Neither snow nor ice from sidewalks or private property shall be deposited in the street or piled so high as to obstruct motorists’ view.
• Where ice cannot be removed, the business shall use sand, salt, or other suitable substance that will prevent the ice from being dangerous.
• Odd/Even parking is in effect during most snow clearing operations. Changes at 8 am.

There's also a note on that website the city of Rockford received from the United Postal Service about reminding citizens to clear the way for mail carriers:

Your letter carrier needs your cooperation to help ensure safe and timely mail delivery everyday. If your mail box is up by your house, please make sure there is a path shoveled and that the path is not slippery of coated with ice. If your mailbox is out by the curb, please make sure that 8-10 feet on either side of the box is cleared of snow to the curb. This will help your carrier efficiently deliver your mail. If your carrier is not able to safely deliver the mail to your mailbox, delivery may be suspended.

Not only is it courteous to clear a path for your mail carrier, but your mail could also actually be cut off if it isn't safe enough. Additionally, with the coronavirus, more packages will probably be delivered to your house so safe passage to the front door will make a lot of people happy.
