Rockford’s CRE8IV Mural Fest Returning and Looking for Artists
In 2019, downtown Rockford got its coolest visual upgrade ever. After a one year hiatus, the incredibly cool CRE8IV Mural Festival is returning.
In 2021, the Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (RACVB) is telling us that not only is the CRE8IV Mural Fest returning, it will be bigger as well.
This year's mural fest will take place June 7- June 11, and it's expanding to other communities. In 2019, nine different murals were painted on the sides of building all throughout Rockford's River District. It was as if the entire district came alive. You just don't realize how much a giant colorful work of art just makes everything around it come to life.
One of the big changes organizers are hoping to put into action for the 2021 festival is expanding into some other areas, besides downtown Rockford. If fundraising goes well, the plan would include adding one mural each to Loves Park, Rockton and Pecatonica, in addition to 3-5 more in Rockford.
RACVB is putting out the call to any artist interested in participating that also has some large media experience. Artists interested in producing original high-quality murals are invited to submit a proposal addressing all requirements for the project. Deadline for submissions is April 10, 2021.
