A Rockford woman is in custody following an alleged assault on an officer and a standoff with police.

According to a press release, officers responded early this morning to the 1400 block of Christina Street following a complaint of a disorderly female who appeared to be in mental crisis. The female, Tameka Reed, was armed with a butcher knife and had assaulted a Rockford Police officer who had entered the home to check her welfare.

Officers were able to contain Reed by preventing her from leaving her bedroom. After
several hours of attempted negotiation, Reed began throwing shards of glass from a broken window at officers on the perimeter of the residence. Officials say at that point the 33-year-old Reed was tased by a Sergeant with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.

Reed was transported to a local hospital for a psychological evaluation. She's since been charged with Aggravated Assault to a Peace Officer.
