Rockford PD Advises Using Caution With Online Meet-Ups

After dealing with several armed robbery attempts during meet-ups to finalize online deals, the Rockford Police Department has some tips on staying safe.

If you're planning on getting together with a stranger to buy or sell something listed on an online site like Craigslist, the Rockford Police Department is urging local residents to do so in the safest way possible.

• Meet in a public place
• Make sure location is well-lit
• Avoid conducting sales at night
• Take extra caution with high-value items
• Tell friends and family
• Ask someone to go with you
• Take a cellphone
• Trust your instincts

And, as always, if the deal seems too good to be true...it probably is.

It's not just the Rockford area having this problem, either:
