Rockford City Market Changes Due To Parking Deck Collapse
Following the partial structure failure of the Water Street parking deck in downtown Rockford, some changes have been announced for the layout of the popular Rockford City Market.
The City Market has called the Water Street Deck home since it opened. However, because the structure has been condemned, booth, stages, and porta-potties that previously were housed on the second level of the deck will be relocated to space on Water Street and Market Street. The City Market area also will expand slightly to include vendors starting on State Street north to Jefferson Street at the bridge.
Other than that, trough, City Market manager Cathy McDermott says everything will go on as planned this Friday.
All of this follows a significant structural failure of the Water Street Deck on Tuesday. An 18-inch by 12-foot section of the second level collapsed, leaving concrete and debris an a partially crushed car on the first level. No one was injured. The deck already was scheduled for demolition in the Fall of this year.
