Recall Alert: Illinois Family Dollar Stores Pull 400 Products

Normally when there's a recall notice, it's for one or two products. Even the bigger recall notices that we see only cover maybe 10-15 items. But this announcement from Family Dollar stores covers literally hundreds of products that are being pulled from store shelves.

And the reason for pulling them is somewhat unusual.

There Can Be Lots Of Reasons For A Product Recall, But I've Never Seen This Reason Given Before

Normally a product recall happens for reasons like the product being defective, or contamination by something like E.coli or Salmonella, even pieces of foreign material being found in the product have caused recalls.

None of those reasons apply here with the Family Dollar announcement. So what's the problem?

According to NBC News, it's a storage issue. As in, the products weren't stored properly:

At least 400 personal care and drug products, including brand names like Tylenol, DayQuil, Crest toothpaste, and more, were inadvertently shipped to certain stores on or around May 1st through June 10th due after being stored outside of labeled temperature requirements.

Family Dollar Stores Have 107 Locations In Cities And Towns Throughout Illinois

And this recall covers most of those (Family Dollar says that not all Illinois locations received the tainted products), along with stores in 47 other states across the country.

The recall primarily impacts health and hygiene products, such as toothpaste, ointments, sunscreen and pain relievers. Products include Colgate and Sensodyne toothpaste, Listerine mouthwash, Dayquil, Tylenol PM, and Alka Seltzer.
