Based upon the latest food recall information from the USDA's Food Safety And Inspection Service (FSIS), I'd say it's time for Illinoisans to take a few minutes to do some chicken-checking in the home freezer to see if you might have a box or two labeled Banquet Brand Frozen Chicken Strips Entree.

There appears to be a possible contamination problem, but it's not of the salmonella, listeria, or even E. coli varieties. This recall falls under the umbrella of "possible foreign matter contamination."

"Possible Foreign Matter Contamination" Can Mean Several Things, But In This Particular Recall It Means Extraneous Materials, Specifically Pieces Of Plastic

I'm guessing that maybe the recall could have been avoided if the box had added the words "crunchy-style," but probably not.

According to the USDA's FSIS website, Conagra Brands, Inc, is recalling approximately 245,366 pounds of frozen chicken strips entree products that may be contaminated with pieces of plastic.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number "EST. P-9" printed on the side of the carton. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide and were also sold online.

The problem was discovered when the firm notified FSIS that it received a consumer complaint of plastic in the chicken strip portion of the product, which resulted in an oral injury associated with consumption of this product.

FSIS has received no additional reports of injury or illness from consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers' freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
