After being closed all summer Olson Lake is set to reopen.

On March 20, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources announced that the lake would be closed for the 2017 season because of siltation. Siltation is a generic term basically meaning the lake was too polluted to swim in. The department dredged the lake in April and has since cleared the lake for swimmers.

WREX - No opening date has been set, but state Rep. John Cabello said he hopes it will happen before summer is over.

So now that the lake has been cleared by the experts, would you want to go in the lake? I'm not a big "natural body of water" guy, too many gross things you can't see, so I'm still out. It will be interesting to see what kind of traffic the newly opened lake will see.

Stay tuned for an official opening date.
