VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say three officers shot at a car break-in suspect who fled police in northwestern Indiana and stole a road maintenance vehicle.

Indiana State Police say the Valparaiso Police Department got a call Wednesday afternoon about three males trying to break into cars and an officer spotted the suspects driving shortly afterward. The vehicle fled an attempted traffic stop and ended up on the Indiana Toll Road before crashing.

Police say three males fled on foot into a wooded area. Two were caught and a third stole an unoccupied maintenance vehicle, hitting a semi-truck and driving at a maintenance worker. State police say a Porter County deputy and two troopers fired at him. He eventually crashed and was captured.

Police say he had non-life-threatening injuries. Charges were pending.
