A moderate geomagnetic storm might give us a chance to see the Northern Lights.

According to the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), a moderate geomagnetic storm watch is in effect for Tuesday, September 11 "due to the anticipated onset of coronal hole high speed stream."

What does that mean? It means Rockford and northern Illinois are right in line to see the Northern Lights.

If you look closely, we are between the green and yellow lines. That's the area where the "Aurora Extent" should take place if we see it at all.

That's because cloud cover could ruin the fun for everyone. Mystateline.com is saying there's a 10% chance for rain with partly cloudy skies.

The SWPC says "to observe the Aurora, the skies must be clear and free of clouds."

Who knows. It may or may not happen. Keep an eye up to the north tomorrow to see if you can see the Aurora Borealis for yourself.
