It seems like a new one of these pops up every week. We'll keep letting you know about them.

This one is again targeting people who actually answer a number they don't know. Crazy right? The Winnebago Sheriff's office says many local residents have gotten phone calls from people claiming to be high ranking officials from Rockford, either at the Sheriff's office of the U.S. Attorney's office. The caller will then say there's a warrant out for your arrest for a failure to appear and to call an 800 number to transfer bond payment.

That's when they get you. That 800 number leads you to a sham organization that just takes your credit card number and your money. In one case a victim used their card to transer $2,400 to an office in Georgia.

The best way to avoid these things is to use common sense and honestly I just wouldn't answer any numbers you don't know. It's worked for me.
