ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say a man was stabbed multiple times inside the downtown Rockford Public Library.

Rockford Police Sgt. David Lee says library patrons found the victim lying on the floor of a bathroom Monday afternoon. The Rockford Register Star reports the man was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

Witnesses described the suspect as a white or Hispanic male in his 40s. They told police he fled the scene in a pickup truck.

Anyone with information regarding the stabbing is asked to call the Rockford Police Department.
