Unemployment in September for Illinois fell just a couple of points from 7% to 6.8% so that means there are still plenty of people looking for work.
If you are searching for a job or in school preparing to join the workforce what field should you consider?
Jobs that pay the most would be the obvious choice.
That said, I decided to look into the jobs that pay the most in Illinois since, after all, we live in the Land of Lincoln.
Based on research from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, it definitely pays to be in Illinois' health care field.
70% of the top 10 jobs in Illinois are in health care, albeit spread out in different forms.
That doesn't mean there are other opportunities, because two of the top 25 are in the airline industry.
The truth is though, most of the people in the highest paid jobs on this list usually don't fall into them.
In order to land one of these gigs, you're more than likely going to have to attend some sort of secondary schooling, whether it be med school, law school or even getting your pilot's license. Long story short, these jobs pay well, but the cost just to obtain the degree or certificate to work in that field could be a massive financial burden.
So how does it happen? No one knows for sure. Certainly having the smarts, and drive to get the diploma and the job are a good start but sometimes it boils down to family and money.
Either way, if you're unhappy with your current profession, change your career, get your degree, and land one of Illinois' highest-paid jobs.
