This Illinois Highway Makes Drivers Rethink Their Lives
When was the last time you sat in traffic? I mean, really sat in traffic. Not an extra 5 minutes because of hitting every stoplight. Not an extra 10 minutes because of construction or an accident. I mean, hours standing still on a freeway.
As somebody who spent over a decade in Houston and Dallas, I can tell you, I do not miss it at all. An hour to get to work, and by the time I got in, I'd be exhausted from the stress of traffic.
It's moments like that when we rethink our lives. In Illinois, there is one stretch of road that has people contemplating country life.
Chicago Has Some Of The Worst Traffic In The United States
We all know how bad Chicago traffic is. But it's not the worst in the country.
The top five spots for commuters to rethink their lives are all in New York and New Jersey. While that is not surprising, it also kind of is. L.A. traffic is awful. San Francisco is terrible. Chicago, Dallas, and Houston can all hold their own when it comes to wanting to drive your car into the ditch and give up.
The worst stretch of highway is the I-95 New Jersey Turnpike from Newark to the George Washington Bridge.
That's followed by the Long Island Expressway, the Cross Bronx Expressway, and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. None of them are very "express".
The report from Potamkin Hyundai found the top spot in Iowa. Which is comical. I-235 in Des Moines from Downtown to West Mixmaster is nothing compared to those in New York or the ones below in Illinois.
Is This Drive Really Worth It In Illinois?
The worst spot, of course, is in the Chicago area. But, which one?
I-90/I-94 Kennedy Expressway - Chicago, O’Hare to Downtown. Shivers down your spine. I think this has been under construction since 1967.
This simple 17-ish miles of road should take about 20 minutes. But on any given day, it can easily balloon to an hour and twenty minutes. It's for sure the worst.
So next time you are sitting on this road rethinking your life, just know you are not the only one, as it's the worst in Illinois. Maybe being a farmer in the middle of nowhere, Illinois, isn't so bad.
