I promise if you can bear with me and make it through the very first part of this story, which is sad, you will love the heartwarming way it ends. You will also learn how to make the story's ending even better.

Cricket's Story

Let me introduce you to Cricket, an adult Labrador Retriever mix, and current resident at It Takes a Village in Evansville. This sweet mama recently had a litter of puppies, none of which survived. Despite being heartbroken, Cricket quickly found a new purpose when 10 orphaned puppies were surrendered to another local shelter. The puppies had no mama dog, and their situation was not looking great, that is until Cricket stepped in to (literally) save the day.

Sweet Cricket has been able to nurse and nurture this litter of 2-week-old puppies. We often ask the rhetorical question "Who's a good doggy?!?" Well, the answer is clearly CRICKET.

Here's Where You Come In

Hopefully, Cricket's story has got you feeling all warm and fuzzy, but it ain't over yet.  She needs a little human help. It Takes a Village recently shared Cricket's story on Facebook, along with the following plea...

Our amazing mama needs your help! We're urgently looking for a temporary foster home to provide her and the little ones with a safe and loving environment until they find their forever homes. Can you open your heart and home to this furry hero and orphaned puppies?

25 Unusual Things Owners Say They're Pets Have Eaten

Having a pet, especially a dog, is like having a toddler all the time. If you don't see or hear them for a while, it usually means they're getting into something they're not supposed to be getting into. After my dog had to have surgery to remove a lump of carpet she had eaten, I wanted to know if there were any other strange or unusual things other people's pets have digested. How some of these animals still have working digestive systems is nothing short of a medical miracle. It's a good thing they're cute.
