If you know someone who has some sort of nut allergy, then you know how dangerous they can be. In some cases, even the slightest exposure to the wrong kind of nut can lead to serious health problems. So when you see that cashews are being recalled from Walmart, you might assume it has to do with protecting those with nut allergies - but in this case, folks with a different kind of allergy need to be aware.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently shared a report that John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc (JBSS) announced a voluntary recall of a limited amount of 8.25 oz Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews. The problem is not so much with the nuts themselves, but rather with the labels on the cans. Some labels may have omitted a couple of important ingredients...

...it may contain undeclared coconut and milk. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to coconut or milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product."

The specific product being recalled is the Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews which come in an 8.25 oz plastic can with a blue label. These cashews are sold at select Walmart locations in 30 states, including Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. See the rest of the FDA report here.

The good news is, that there have been no reports of any adverse reactions, but if you have a milk or coconut allergy, you don't want to be the first, right? So be on the lookout. If you have some of these cashews at home, do not eat them - either throw them away or return them to Walmart for a refund.
