I must've missed the memo about Subway going from a reasonably priced sandwich shop to a gourmet bistro because it seems things are out of whack. That is, if you want to believe the foodie bloggers, Eat This, Not That!.

The Internet Is Roasting Subway Prices

According to their story, The 7 Most Overpriced Sandwich Chains in America, Subway is asking a bit too much for what they used to dub a "Five Dollar Foot Long."

Eat This Not That!:

Diners maintain that Subway has gotten way too expensive over the last couple of years. 'I bought a Subway Sandwich for 21 bucks,' one Redditor wrote. 'Subway is absolutely not worth it anymore,' someone replied. 'Quality was always dubious but it managed to barely scrape by in the price-quality ratio curve. Now they are charging for them as if they were real subs.'

DoorDash Prices Tell a Different Story

That "real subs" line killed me, so bravo, that's a decent jab. Checking out Subway prices on DoorDash, I didn't find a $21 sub, but I was surprised to see them hovering around the $10 range.

Eat This, Not That! also targeted Potbelly, a Chicago OG with a Rockford location. Online chatter about their prices has also raised the ire of the shop's fans, who have noticed $17 charges for a "sub and soup."

Reality Check: What Are These Sandwiches Really Costing?

On the Potbelly website, I ordered a sub and soup, and it's $10.29 before tax, so while it's costly, it's going to come up short of $17 total.

So what is it? Is Subway, Potbelly, and some of the others on the list like Jimmy John's and Jersey Mikes, overpriced or is it just a chosen few who are complaining the loudest?
