If you need another reason to be proud you're a Rockford area resident, here's a good one that involves Soldier Field, the Bears, the Packers, and some talented local kids.

Another Reason to Be Excited for a Bears/Packers Showdown

In case you have been living under a rock for the last few weeks, this Saturday, January 10, will be a big day for football fans in Illinois and Wisconsin. Why? Because the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers will be facing off in an NFL playoff game at Soldier Field starting at 7 p.m.

While I don't claim to be a diehard Chicago Bears fan, or even a professional football fan, even I am excited to watch this matchup and will definitely be rooting for a historical Bears win!

But, I'm even more excited to watch Saturday's game because of this; four Rockford-area flag football teams have been asked by the Chicago Bears to scrimmage during halftime!

A press release from the Rockford Park District says:

Two 14U Boys Flag Football teams and two middle school girls Flag Football teams have been asked by the Chicago Bears to play a scrimmage during halftime. The 14U Boys team, coached by Martin Hyatte, won the Chicago Bears NFL FLAG regional tournament, which debuted in Rockford last fall at the newly renovated Clarence Hicks Sports Complex. The other 14U Boys team, coached by James Wright, was the runner-up at that tournament and will also play on Saturday night.

The Chicago Bears have been huge supporters of RPD's flag football program, and they even donated $50,000 to help launch a middle school league.

In addition to the scrimmage, these four local flag football teams will get to watch the Bears and Packers warm up from the sidelines, and score some special Chicago Bears merch.

As a Rockford resident, I can’t wait to watch our community shine on that field. This isn’t just a halftime show. It’s a celebration of youth sports, dedicated coaches, and proud families. Good luck to the players, and have fun!
