Don’t Miss Rockford’s Free Festival of Frights This Halloween
Are you in the mood for some Halloween fun but prefer for it not to involve being chased by things in the dark? Here's an enjoyable way to get your spooky fix in this Halloween.
Rockford's Festival of Frights
The Festival of Frights is returning to Sinnissippi Park in Rockford this October, giving families a chance to enjoy festive light displays, show off their costumes, and have some Halloween fun without all the scares of typical haunted attractions.

The Festival of Frights works much like Rockford's Festival of Lights., meaning visitors drive through and enjoy light displays made possible thanks to generous businesses and donors throughout the Rockford area, but there is one big difference. The Festival of Frights runs for 9 days only!

The 8th annual Festival of Frights will be open daily from dusk until 9 p.m. starting October 23 through October 31 and is free to attend, but donations are encouraged to provide Halloween costumes for kids in need in the Rockford area.
Back for 2026: The Haunted Hills Hustle
In years past, the Festival of Frights has also featured a family-friendly walk/run through Sinnissippi Park called the Haunted Hills Hustle, and the good news is, it's returning this year on Friday, October 23!
Here's the fun part, you don't have to be a serious runner to participate... you decide how far you want to go.
Participants are encouraged to run or walk anywhere from one to four one-mile loops through the Festival of Frights Halloween light displays, and wearing costumes is absolutely encouraged. Plus, you get a t-shirt and the chance to win some cool door prizes.
Registration for the 2026 Haunted Hills Hustle is $35, and you can register now here.
Go have some fun and get your spooky on, Rockford!
