If you're looking for a unique way to celebrate the Fourth of July in Illinois this year, Major League Baseball is hosting a home run your whole family will love.

Illinois 4th of July Plans

This year the 4th of July falls on a Saturday, and it's officially America's 250th birthday, so I believe it's our duty to celebrate in a BIG way!

As a mom, I'm always searching for family activities that don't involve standing in a crowded parking lot for fireworks or spending a small fortune on entertainment. Thankfully, I just discovered an event that's combining three things everyone loves about summer: baseball, movies, and fireworks.

MLB Summer Drive-In

In case you haven't heard, the MLB is celebrating America's 250th birthday with a FREE Summer Drive-In event at four theaters across the country, and McHenry Outdoor Theater in McHenry, Illinois was chosen as one of them!

This special event at McHenry Outdoor Theater will begin at 5 p.m. on July 4 with a screening of the beloved baseball classic The Sandlot, and then families can stick around to watch the Chicago Cubs take on the St. Louis Cardinals on the big screen starting at 7 p.m.

A fireworks show will immediately follow the Cubs game, and the entire event will feature family-friendly activities, lawn games, giveaways, and plenty of ballpark-inspired food options.

Even better? Tickets for the event are free, but you do need to reserve your space in advance. The ticket link will be available soon, so keep a close eye on McHenry Outdoor Theater's Facebook and website so you don't miss out!

A drive-in movie, Cubs baseball, food, and fireworks, all in one place? That sounds like a pretty perfect Fourth of July to me!
