Why This Mysterious Illinois Gravesite Might Leave You in Tears
Are you fascinated by old cemeteries and the mysteries of the gravesites that lie within them? Wait until you hear the legend of the "Witch Baby Grave" in Rockton, Illinois.
Haunted Places in Northern Illinois
The Rockford, Illinois area is no stranger to spooky stories and haunted places. In fact, paranormal investigators have often stopped in Rockford to explore two of the cities most haunted places; Tinker Swiss Cottage and Coronado Theater, but I'm not sure if anyone paranormal experts have taken the time to investigate the infamous "Witch Baby Grave" in Rockton, Illinois.
The Legend of Rockton's Witch Baby Grave
Within the Rockton Township Cemetery in Rockton, Illinois lies a small white monument enclosed by wire fencing.
This grave looks a little unusual, but not exactly terrifying, right? Wrong!
Legends say this grave is super haunted and there's a few disturbing reasons why.
Stories say that in this grave lies the infant daughter of a an unwed woman townspeople deemed a witch. The baby died shortly after birth from "mysterious" circumstances and shortly after she was buried people started reporting seeing strange lights coming from the grave. (Ummm...no thank you.)
If that's not spooky enough for you, maybe this part of the story will be.
After a fence was placed around the grave to prevent vandalism, people started noticing that no grass grew within the fence, but some pretty flowers did.
Back in 1999 a woman named "Clarissa" described an experience she had at the infamous Witch Baby Grave for article on ghostvillage.com, here's the part that really got me...
I will never forget the feeling of loneliness and sadness when walking up to this imprisoned grave. It was a beautiful summer day, clear skies, and warm breeze, but for some reason whatever happiness I found in the day was sucked out of me.
"Clarissa" went on to say that before the group she was with left the gravesite, one of her friends picked a pretty pink flower from within the fenced area around the baby's grave. Then this happened...
My friend, who sat in the backseat looked down at her flower. All of a sudden the pretty pink flower and the car was filled with tons of gnats and other tiny bugs.
