A Terrifying Birthday Request
There comes a point in parenting when you realize your sweet little girl who used to get scared in the Halloween aisle at Target has somehow turned into a nearly 13-year-old who's begging to go to a haunted house for her birthday.

Instead of a birthday party this October, my daughter wants to go with friends to a haunted house. But not just any haunted house. She specifically wants an OUTDOOR haunted experience.
As a mom who does not purposely seek out things that make me scream, I had to go on a search for places that would fulfill my daughter's terrifying celebration request.

Just so we're clear, at the Forest of Freaks you are not simply walking through a series of dark indoor rooms waiting for someone to jump out at you. You're walking through a dark forest waiting for someone to jump out at you... which sounds far scarier to me!
The Forest of Freaks features multiple paths through the woods that take around 30 minutes to complete, depending on how brave you are. (Or how quickly you run!) The experience is open to all ages but is recommended for ages 13 and up. so my daughter's birthday timing is pretty convenient.

For people who don't want to take a terrifying trek through the woods, or want to kill some time while waiting in line, the Forest of Freaks waiting area has bonfires and places to hang out, plus concessions and a "Shoot-A-Freak" experience.

Forest of Freaks 2026 Details
The Forest of Freaks at 5946 U.S. Highway 51 in Janesville will open for the 2026 season on Friday, October 2 and will be open every Friday and Saturday night from 7 to 11 p.m. through October 31. Buy tickets in advance or get more information at wescaredyou.com.
