Wisconsin’s Best ‘Hole-in-the-Wall’ Restaurant is One of the Best in the US
You don't need to sell me how good a "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant could be.
The truth is, that kind of restaurant is a dice roll. You never really know what you're going to get.
Sure, the place is held together by duct tape and barely passes all of its health inspections, but the cook they have working the line who has been with the restaurant for 43 years is the real reason they are successful.
If that guy takes a day off or, God forbid, quits, then what happens to the restaurant?
It's a hypothetical situation that has probably happened repeatedly to some of the finest hole-in-the-wall diners.
Long story short, your experience could differ from the others depending on the day and time.
That is to say, LoveFood just called a restaurant in Wisconsin one of the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants in America.

They said Al's Hamburger Shop in Green Bay is the place for that low-key awesome stuff, adding, "This cute burger joint dates back to 1934 and is a favorite among locals (and anyone else in the know)."
LoveFood goes on to say the menu at Al's is "simple yet perfectly executed," touting their burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and shakes served to customers who "perch at the few blue leather-topped stools or grab a cozy booth."
All the positivity aside, there are some who aren't fans of this hole-in-the-wall restaurant, like Heidi W. from Green Bay on Yelp, who says, "This is NOTHING like what Al's used to be—the longstanding reputation that they lean so heavily on."
You can read Heidi W's full review HERE and visit Al's in person at 131 South Washington Street in Green Bay. It's worth it.
