Let's be honest, sometimes going out in public isn't the problem... it's the possibility of running into people you know.  Because now, what was supposed to be a quick trip to grab one thing somehow turns into a 20-minute life update you were absolutely not prepared for.

And listen, there's no shame in it.  We all have those days, some more than others, where socializing just isn't on my to-do list.  You're not trying to be rude, you're protecting your peace (and your time).

For example, I will purposely not wear my glasses in public.  It helps me not see people I know so I can keep on keeping on.  Sounds kinda mean, but sometimes my social battery has already depleted!

  • give em a peace, nod and then disappear
  • Try not to make eye contact & head to another aisle
  • Lock in on my phone and fake text
  • Smile and wave and keep it moving
  • Turn and walk the other way, or ignore them like I didn't see them...or be totally engrossed in looking at the shelves for what I don't really need.
  • Quick handshake or hug, depending on the relationship, and tell them you have some place you have to be. Do not make eye contact and pretend to not notice them.
