When you think Illinois and beer, what brand comes to mind... I bet it's not what Google claims is Illinois' favorite.

Cheers to National Beer Lovers Day. In case you don't know, it's today, September 7. Now if you partied too hard over Labor Day weekend and aren't quite ready to celebrate today, that's ok. I'm sure the beer in your fridge is happy to wait until Friday or Saturday for you to grab a cold one.

In the spirit of National Beer Lovers Day, IllinoisBet.com decided to analyze beer Google searches in the past year. They've decided that searching for a specific beer means it's your favorite.

What's Illinois' Favorite Beer?

If their research is to be believed, then Illinois' favorite beer is... Guinness?

That doesn't seem to add up, what do you think? Sure Guinness is an interesting beer and a lot of people like it. But does it seem like Guinness is really the most popular beer in Illinois?

Perhaps it's because I don't drink beer, but I just don't think this study is correct.

According to their research, in the last year, Guinness has been search over 400,000 times in Illinois and Bud Light, which took the second place on the list, was only searched 281,400 times.

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery.
