This Wisconsin Burger Was Just Named the Best in the State—Here’s Where to Find It
If you've ever questioned whether Wisconsin takes its burgers seriously, here's your answer, with extra cheese. A new champion has been crowned, and it's practically begging for a weekend road trip.
Wisconsin Names a New Burger Champ—And it's Road Trip Worthy
You don't have to twist our arms to drive north in search of cheesy, beefy greatness, especially when the reward is the Brazen Beer Cheese Burger at Brazen Head Pub in West Bend, Wisconsin.
On May 1, this glorious creation was named Best Burger in Wisconsin by the Wisconsin Beef Council in their second annual "Wisconsin Best Burger Contest."

What's on it? Only everything delicious: a half-pound Angus beef patty, cheddar cheese, bacon, onion rings, and a generous pour of Harp's beer cheese, all stacked on a pretzel bun. You could probably smell this thing from three counties over.

How the Burger Beat the Rest
It topped the competition from seven other restaurants across the state, all part of the "Elite Eight" selected by burger fans online. Then, three undercover judges hit the road to rank each burger on taste, appearance, doneness, and that magical "overall enjoyment" factor. Bonus points were handed out for things like atmosphere, because burgers just taste better in the right kind of divey booth.
Yes, I'm in Love—and No, There's No Ketchup
Sure, I'll always have a soft spot for a Culver's ButterBurger and a strict no-ketchup policy, but there's plenty of room in my burger-loving heart for this West Bend masterpiece.
So... Who's Driving?
It's just a couple of hours from Rockford, and let's be honest: when beer cheese is involved, "a couple of hours" feels like nothing. Grab your stretchy pants and take a bite of burger greatness.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has more, including the rest of the "Elite Eight" burgers.
