One of America’s Finest BBQ Joints Is Not Too Far From Rockford
I sure could use some good BBQ right about now.
Having spent some time in Kansas City during my adult life, I fell in love with BBQ and all its goodness.
While the BBQ in Illinois has been dandy, I have yet to eat at a restaurant serving brisket, ribs, and burnt ends that genuinely knocks my socks off.
That said, I love the food (and the people) at Smokehouse BBQ in Rockford and Smokin Coop in Belvidere, and I'm also a big fan of the Gale Street Inn, but that's all the way into Chicago, and I rarely have the time for that kind of travel.
That said, I can usually find a reason to go to a restaurant that is receiving this kind of treatment.
I mean, it's being touted as the best BBQ joint in the entire state of Wisconsin, and as someone who lives just outside of Rockford, hearing I won't have to drive clear up to the Northwoods or Door County is just music to my rib-loving ears.
The restaurant in question is Double B's BBQ in West Allis, which is less than a 90-minute drive, in case you're wondering.
Then again, no distance would stop me from wanting to try this stuff. LoveFood says:
Run by a husband-and-wife team, Double B's BBQ is a local favorite for barbecue plates featuring ultra-meaty baby back ribs and St. Louis spare ribs (spare ribs with the tough cartilage trimmed) rubbed with seasoning and smoked over a hickory fire pit. They're served dry with sauce on the side, so you can try the flavor first before covering them in it – a true sign of great cooking.
Tripadvisor says this place is a 4.5-out-of-5-star gem. Thrillist has named it one of the best barbecue spots in Milwaukee, and TMJ4 has called it one of the city's best mom-and-pop joints.
Double B's sounds like the real deal. Have you tried it, and if so, is it worth the drive?
