It's really happening! Your favorite downtown Rockford pizza place is officially moving to Loves Park.

Just a few weeks ago we all found out it was a possibility that Capri, which has been located in downtown Rockford for decades, might be moving to Loves Park. As of this afternoon, it's official.

You probably remember last fall, there was a huge kitchen fire in Capri's kitchen and the once extremely popular pizza place had to close its doors.

The doors have remained closed for over a year and we have been impatiently waiting to hear when we would be able to get back inside.

Now we have some actual news about Capri moving North to Loves Park.

The owners of Capri Restaurant just purchased the former Shell gas station at 6480 E. Riverside Blvd. and plan to tear it down and prep for a new version of their downtown restaurant.

The plan is for Capri to launch a carryout service as soon as possible as they work to transition into a full dine-in spot like their Rockford location.

It's definitely a bummer that Capri won't be downtown anymore in their historic building, but it's great to hear that they will be opening elsewhere.

On the plus side, we do have a bunch of new restaurants opening soon in downtown Rockford including Disco Chicken taking over the Taco Betty's building, and a daiquiri lounge, too!
