I travel a lot and I've seen some gross things in hotels, but fortunately, I've never had to deal with bed bugs. These nasty pests are nocturnal and feed on the blood of sleeping people. Even worse, they're great travelers, hitching rides on luggage and spreading to new places.

Find out what to look for when staying in hotels and read about the eight Minnesota cities that made the list of the worst places in the US for bed bugs.

According to the EPA, bed bug bites can look like bites from other insects like mosquitoes or chiggers, as well as rashes from eczema, fungal infections, or even hives.

Where To Check For Bed Bugs:

WebMD says adult bedbugs are flat and about the size of an apple seed. After feeding, they swell up and turn reddish.

Travelers are advised to check bed sheets for signs like blood spots, tiny pale yellow eggs or eggshells, and small black bedbug droppings that look like dots.
