The Best Bed & Breakfast in Iowa is Supposedly Haunted

Eastern Iowa is home to the best B&B in the entire state! A new article from Love Exploring has recognized the Mason House Inn and Caboose Cottage in Bentonsport as the top bed and breakfast in Iowa.

Mason House Inn is located at 21982 Hawk Drive and has a VERY long history. It was built back in 1846! Here's what Love Exploring has to say about the inn:

"Rooms reflect the past – think old-fashioned quilts, rocking chairs and sleigh beds – plus there’s the Caboose Cottage that’s inside, yes, a real caboose rail wagon. It's set in the village of Bentonsport, with a historic center dotted with churches, well-preserved general stores, and an old wagon bridge, all little changed since its time as a 19th-century steamboat port."

According to the official website, the Mason House Inn was initially built as a hotel for steamboat travelers, but it was also used as a hospital three different times, and it was a station on the Underground Railroad. The Mason House Inn has eight rooms available, as well as the Caboose Cottage, which is located on the property. The Caboose Cottage is "fully equipped with modern amenities," including a kitchen, a dining area, a bedroom, heat/air conditioning, a satellite TV, and a private bathroom. It can hold a maximum of three guests.
