Mysterious High-Altitude Balloon Over Missouri Friday Night?
Wait. I know I've heard this one before, but this is new. There appears to be another mysterious high-altitude balloon making its way over Missouri Friday night as many are speculating that the country is going through another spy balloon episode just like it did last year.
I saw CBS News share the word that the military scrambled jets when a mysterious balloon was spotted over Utah earlier on Friday. It was located between 43,000 and 45,000 feet and reportedly is made of mylar with a small box attached to the bottom. The military claims it "does not pose a threat". Right.
The Hill reported that the balloon was heading east steered by the atmospheric winds and was now over the Midwest and would be over Georgia late Friday night. That places it directly over Missouri.
It's possible that the balloon is either over Missouri now or has already passed, but the Show Me State was certainly in the path of whatever this balloon is and what it was doing.
The Hill report quotes government officials who said the balloon is "not maneuverable and did not present a threat to national security". I have to wonder how they are so sure?
It does not appear that the United States will shoot this balloon (and its box) down like they did when the Chinese balloon passed over the country. That's a shame. (Oh wait, did I say that out loud?)
At last report, no one (or country) has claimed ownership of this balloon intrusion. As this is a developing story, it will be updated once (or if) new information is released.
