Missouri Man Heard Sound from Cave, Investigated & Regretted It
Missouri has a lot of caves and a lot of creatures that live in those caves. A general rule of thumb is it's not a good idea to investigate every little sound you hear coming from one. One explorer learned this lesson the hard way as a video proves.
I had someone send this to me with the inference that this happened in a Missouri cave although the video description does not have a location given. It's a YouTube short, so you don't get a lot of backstory with those types of videos. The fact that the man named his channel Outlawed Hillbilly leads me to believe my friend was right about the Missouri origination of this moment.
I decided to go ahead and share it anyway because I have many Missouri friends who spend lots of time in the backcountry who have told me they know this type of encounter has happened in the state and it's a nice reminder to be careful what you look for in a cave. As he turned the corner, he could see fur...
This man apparently heard rustling inside of a small cave outcropping and decided to see what was lurking. The fact that this was at night makes it all the more terrifying. Note to self: some things hiding in Missouri caves BITE.
Imagine peering into a cave outcropping and seeing this smiling face...
The good news is this guy just got a warning growl and no injuries. This could have gone so wrong so fast.
Most mountain lions/cougars you come across in Missouri will flee from you instead of hunting you as they are solitary creatures that don't seek out human contact. However, corner one and you might do more than just see fangs. They are fierce when they're cornered.
All's well that ends well so we all have a harmless teachable Missouri mountain lion moment.
