Illinois is #1 Again for People Fleeing for Greener Pastures
I get it, but there are also some aspects of this survey that I don't understand. Illinois is once again tops in America for the sheer number of people that are leaving. Let's look at the science and data and also some opinions about why many believe this is true.
When it comes to moving statistics, you would think a moving company would know. I had a representative from Allied reach out to me about a brand new ranking using their data showing that Illinois is once again the #1 state in America for people leaving versus those coming into the state.
When you look at the cities people are moving away from the most, you can see that Chicago is a big reason why Illinois is a state so many are migrating away from.
Here's my takeaway from this. It's not so much that people are choosing to leave Illinois as much as residents are leaving Chicago. Yes, other cities in Illinois like the Quad Cities, Rockford and Champaign/Urbana are seeing big moving away numbers, too. But, it's the large number trying to get away from Chicago that's dragging the rest of the state down. I have no intentions of becoming an Illinois apologist, but I think if Chicago were removed from Illinois (something many would likely vote for), you'd see the state not appear in the top 10 of lists like this.
The Allied study is an interesting ranking to check out if you'd like to see moving trends not just in Illinois, but across America, too.
