According to WalletHub's new ranking of the Best & Worst States for Singles 2024, Illinois is the 6th best state for single people in the US. Illinois ranks only behind Florida, Texas, California, New York, and Pennsylvania. How did WalletHub put these rankings together? On their site, they say...

"...Dating is also a numbers game, so a state with a higher proportion of single adults automatically improves your prospects. Which states combine all of those qualities and more? To answer that question, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 29 key indicators of dating-friendliness. Our data set ranges from the share of single adults to online-dating opportunities to restaurants per capita."

If the population is key, it is no wonder why the top 6 most populated states are the top 6 states on this list from WalletHub. Illinois ranked 5th in the Dating Opportunities category, 8th in the Romance & Fun category, but sadly for the singles out there, Illinois ranks 34th in Dating Economics. Did they get it right?

I think it makes sense that these rankings have a lot to do with population. That being said, I would say Illinois is such a unique state because the vast majority of the population lives in like 15% of the state. So if you are single and live in Chicagoland, then yes, life is pretty good, but if you're single and you live in rural Illinois it can be tough. Do you think Illinois is a good state to be single in?

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
