Minnesota And Wisconsin Fireworks Reminders For The Fourth
As we approach another Fourth of July in the United States, that generally means fireworks.
When watching firework displays put on by a city or town, for the most part you don't have to worry about your safety. Oftentimes those displays are presented over lakes or in remote areas with viewing spots farther away. But what about fireworks you bought and are going to show off to you friends and family?
Each year there are emergency room visits around the Fourth of July from fireworks mishaps. Apart from injuries, according to the National Safety Council, fireworks start an average of 19,000 fires a year.
Before getting into some basic guidelines for using fireworks yourself, I want to mention sparklers. As harmless as they seem, the National Fire Protection Association claims that almost 25% of emergency room visits related to fireworks are because of sparklers. How many times have you handed a sparkler to a kiddo?
Some of the basics for fireworks safety include not letting kids light them off, don't light them indoors, don't be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and wear eye protection. If anything, please protect your eyes, we only get one set.
That's the short list, but it all comes down to making good choices. A lot of fun can still be had with fireworks your purchased yourself but follow some basic guidelines and hopefully everyone can enjoy this Fourth of July.
