I'm not sure if these things have been around for a while or if I just missed it.

I'll be honest here, I'm not always the most observant person.  Most of my life has been a series of TIL (today I learned) stories or "I was today years old" when I found out about this or that.

So yes, I'm a little scared to share I first noticed this yesterday at a Circle K gas station in Byron, Illinois.

I'm also not sure if these "Fuel Gloves" have been around for years, popped up when COVID became a thing or they just got added at this particular gas station.

Either way, I sure wish I had some of those gloves recently when I had a fuel pump foul up, getting gas all over my hands, pants, shoes, and the side of my car.

I was filling up a portable gas tank, you know, those red tanks? I use those to fill up my lawn mower and things like that.

Anyway, I was having a difficult time seeing how full the tank was getting so I decided to pull the pump back a little bit so I could see inside.

I ended up pulling back just a smidge too far, spraying the top of the canister. Worse yet, while it was all happening, I couldn't even convince myself to let go of the pump handle as it continued to spray me and everything around me for what seemed like a five-mile radius.

I guess what I'm saying is those fuel gloves would've been somewhat helpful that day.

I probably could've used a fuel bodysuit on that occasion.

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
