Phobias are common and I'm a firm believer that everyone has to at least have one. Some are obviously more common than others. But, what phobia out there is the most common in Illinois and Wisconsin?

I am one of those people who takes phobias to the extreme. Personally, I do not like anything that has to do with the ocean, I believe that's called thalassophobia. The creatures and the depth are definitely not my cup of tea. Sometimes even just looking at a picture of open water can make me nauseous.

I was curious about what the most common phobias were per state, and honestly, I related to Illinois' common phobia on a soul-deep level.

The Most Common Phobia in the United States

In a study based on Google searches, LiveNowFox went state by state to see which phobia was most researched in the area. I guess you learn something new every day because most of these I have never even heard of!

Apparently, the #1 searched phobia is trypophobia - fear of holes. I didn't even know this was a thing, but it is. And there are even Facebook Groups dedicated to support for people who suffer from this.

It was hard growing up to get me to go to the creek with my family because of my fear, I can't imagine this one. I feel like holes are everywhere. That would be a tough one to cope with.

But still, when it comes to phobias, Illinois doesn't quite worry so much about holes as something a little bigger.

Other honorable mentions in the MidWest were: Iowa & Missouri (fear of public speaking,) Minnesota (fear of blood,) and Indiana (fear of needles.) Honestly, I don't like any of those either!
