My wife and I once ordered one of those mattresses that comes in a small box but grows to full size once you cut the plastic it's bound in.

Well, we ordered one, but ended up with four of them at the same price as only one. When I called to say that we'd been over-delivered, the person on the other end of the phone told me that "sometimes glitches happen, so just go ahead and keep all four with our compliments."

That story covers the biggest "glitch" I've seen when it comes to getting more than you asked for until I read about an Illinois man's adventures with TikTok Shop.

Nearly Everyone Has Arrived At Home To See A Couple Of Packages Waiting By Our Front Door

But have you gotten home to find dozens of packages sitting there? Now imagine that happening again the next day. And the next. And the next.

That’s exactly what happened to one south suburban Illinois man, and the story sounds more like a sitcom setup than real life.

According to NBC Chicago, an Oak Forest resident suddenly found himself at the center of a bizarre delivery mystery when more than 150 packages began showing up at his home, despite the fact that he hadn’t ordered a single one.

At first, the situation was just confusing. The packages kept arriving daily, piling up outside his home. He even admitted that each time he pulled into his driveway, he wondered how many boxes would be waiting for him this time.

So, What Was Inside All Of Those Unwanted And Unordered Packages?

Surprisingly enough, the packages contained aromatherapy diffusers, specifically ones designed to look like little fireplaces. But here’s where it gets weird... the packages weren’t addressed to him by name, just to his address.

So, what in the world is going on with these deliveries?

It turns out the deliveries were tied to a glitch, or possibly something more shady, connected to TikTok Shop. Experts say sellers sometimes need a return address, and in this case, someone appears to have used a random address (his) as the destination for returned items.

In other words, customers across the country were sending products back… straight to this guy’s house. And just like that, his home became an accidental return warehouse.

What To Do If Something Weird Like This Happens To You

If you’re thinking, “Cool! free stuff!” that's technically correct.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) says you’re generally allowed to keep unordered merchandise. But in reality for this guy, it was more headache than jackpot. The constant deliveries raised concerns about missed important mail, potential identity theft, and just the sheer hassle of dealing with it all.

He tried everything, contacting TikTok, even reaching out to federal agencies, but got nowhere until a consumer investigative team stepped in. Eventually, TikTok connected with the seller and removed his address from the system, finally stopping the flood of packages.

Because as it turns out, getting something you didn’t order can go from amusing to overwhelming really fast, especially when it shows up 150 times.
