Christmas Songs: Here Are Illinois’ And Wisconsin’s Most Favorite
It's always fun each December to read a few "year-end" lists that start to come pouring out once we get past Thanksgiving.
You'll see lists like:
- Top-grossing movies
- Best TV series
- Top moments in news and sports
- Albums of the year
- Technology of the year
And, in this particular piece, we'll be looking at "2024's most favorite Christmas songs" on a state-by-state basis, according to a study done by personal finance website FinanceBuzz.com.
Before we get to the songs Illinois and Wisconsin love the most, let's first take a look at the holiday tunes we hate the most. You know, the Christmas discs most people would rather see like this...

FinanceBuzz Realized That We've Got To Take The Bad With The Good Sometimes, So They Also Looked At The "Most Annoying" Christmas Songs That We're Subjected To Each Holiday Season
You probably already know that when these lists are put together, it's all about provoking an argument (or, discussion) between readers over the entries on the list. Their list of the most annoying holiday songs should easily do that. Here's what they've got:
- All I Want For Christmas Is You-Mariah Carey
- The Chipmunk Song-Alvin and The Chipmunks/David Seville
- Feliz Navidad-Jose Feliciano
- Holly Jolly Christmas-Burl Ives
- Baby, It's Cold Outside-Anyone
- Deck The Halls-Anyone
- Happy Xmas (War Is Over)-John Lennon
- White Christmas-Anyone
- Wonderful Christmastime-Paul McCartney
- Do You Hear What I Hear?-Anyone
Here's How They Figured Out What The Favorite Christmas Songs Are In Each State
FinanceBuzz.com looked at five years worth of Google Trends information to see which holiday songs we're searching for the most, then they broke down the answers by state to determine which songs are each state's favorites.
Enough methodology. Let's get to the favorites for Illinois and Wisconsin. As a bonus, I've added in Illinois' other bordering states and their favorites, too.
- Illinois: Jingle Bells
- Wisconsin: All I Want For Christmas Is You
- Iowa: It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
- Missouri: Jingle Bells
- Indiana: Jingle Bells
- Kentucky: Run Rudolph Run
"Jingle Bells" takes first place in the country with 15 states choosing it as their favorite, while "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!" was number-one in 6 states. There's a four-way tie for third place between "Deck The Halls," "The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year," "Last Christmas," and "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer," with each song being named number one in three states.
