Talk about commitment to a gag. This guy has been keeping up with the troll job for over 40 years.

Matter of fact, the term "troll" wasn't even widely used in this context when Milwaukee artist, Mark Gubin first decided to paint a welcome sign on the roof of his house.

Apparently, Gubin noticed or was potentially annoyed by how low planes would fly over his house, way back in 1978 so he decided to start messing with passengers.

Gubin went to the roof of his place and painted in big block letters "WELCOME TO CLEVELAND" as a way to "greet" people visiting his hometown.

In case you missed it, Gubin lives in Milwaukee.

Gubin has been keeping up with it ever since. Even today, if you were to land on runway 19 at the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, you'd be able to spot the rooftop sign just before you land.

I don't know about you, but this is the very first time I've actually heard of this sign.

I had no idea this was even a thing, and despite my ignorance, Gubin and his "Welcome to Cleveland" sign have made national news over the years.

Atlas Obscura:

The “Welcome to Cleveland” sign has garnered years of notoriety for Gubin, who has been interviewed about it on the Today show and by publications like the Huffington Post, GQ, Slate, Daily Mail, Yahoo, among others.

Not a bad day's work for Gubin who has spent most of his life as a prolific photographer.

In 2017, Milwaukee Mag did a profile on Gubin. You can see some of his work HERE.
