Hidden Gems In A Rockford Menu: Marc’s Fusion
It's real easy to get into a rut with your order at a restaurant.
You've found something you like and you just order that every time without really thinking about it. You might not have even looked at the menu of your favorite takeout spots in years.
Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith on the menu to find new stuff. It will backfire. I'm not going to name names but I tried a specialty pizza from one of my favorite places the other week. It was not good. I'll be going back to my usual order for the time being.
But sometimes you strike gold. That's what happened to me this weekend.
Saturday was sushi night at our house. We rotate through a few different places in town when we get sushi. This time it was Marc's Fusion's turn.
I love Marc's. Back when we could eat in restaurants, it was one of my favorite places to go. It's small, the staff is friendly, just one of the good spots in town. The sushi is always excellent. I've also been pleased with the chicken fried rice when I've ordered it.
An appetizer caught my eye when I was going over the menu. The sauteed seafood appetizer.
This unassumingly named appetizer piqued my interest and we threw it on the end of our order.
It was amazing. The texture is hard to explain. It's not breaded but there's some sort of coating that happens during the sautee process. Some pictures:
You can kind of see the "breading" I'm talking about. You can also kind of see my dog staring at it. She did not get any of this. The red balls are the tobiko from my sushi order. They're not included in a normal seared seafood order.

That is the seared seafood at the bottom of the plate right below the tobiko.
Give these a whirl the next time you visit Marc's for some takeout and don't forget the rest of our great restaurants in the area, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but they still need some help till we get there.
