It's an understatement to say that the shots that rang out near Auburn High School last Friday night have students and football fans all over the Stateline a little worried.

Although Rockford Police have determined the gunfire was not directed, nor had anything to do with, the football game that was in progress at the time, local districts are amping up security at football games just to be safe.

Rockford Police are sending extra officers to the area near Auburn High School, and now Freeport School District has announced extra security measures they have put in place for their football games this season.

Christy Sosnowski, a communications member for the Freeport Pretzels Fan Club, recently told WIFR;

We are going to close our north entrance to the football field. Normally we have a south entrance open and a north entrance open. It's just out of an overall safety protocol that they decided to do.

Freeport school officials realize having only one entrance into the stadium may cause an inconvenience for fans, so they are stressing that fans can park in the teacher's parking lot to gain better entrance to the stadium.
