The Federal Bureau of Investigation has approved the use of criminal history record information checks and federal criminal background checks of medical marijuana organizations.

According to a press release, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and the Illinois Department of Agriculture will work together to make sure checks will be completed before any initial operation of any dispensary will begin.

Bob Morgan, the Statewide Coordinator of the Medical Cannibis Program, believes this is a critical step for the pilot program. He said:

"We need to ensure that the owners and employees of these businesses undergo a full background check sufficient to maintain the integrity of this program."
