Corruption In Illinois Costs The State $550 Billion Per Year
Illinois is ranked the third most-corrupt state in the United States, trailing only Rhode Island and Kentucky. That corruption is costing us big money and opportunities.
Consider this, from Illinois Policy:
Corruption leading to federal investigations, indictments and convictions of elected officials have cost Illinoisans more than $9.9 billion in foregone economic activity from 2000 to 2017. That means corrupt activity prevents the private sector from adding at least $550 million to the economy each year. Compared to the other five biggest states in the nation, Illinois has the slowest economic growth and the highest levels of corruption.
